Cycle through Hatton Garden

Cycle through Hatton GardenRide your bike in Hatton GardenBrown diamond handlebar endsSummer is on its way, and with blue skies and warm temperatures. It’s the perfect season to cycle through Hatton Garden in the city of London from the comfort of a bicycle seat. Whilst most cycle enthusiasts will dig out their faithful old bikes from their garden shed. You can rent one of the many Barclays bikes dotted around the city. One retailer in Hatton Garden is offering a much more decadent option.

Jeweller Nicholas Fitch of Hatton Garden’s Nicholas James and leather designer Simon Harcourt have collaborated to design London’s most expensive bicycle. Known as The Brogue, the bike retails at £25,000, and with its bejewelled handlebars and vintage Triumph frame. It is designed for a gentle ride rather than vigorous exercise. As fixed-gear freestyle rider Chris Delia, who also worked on the design and fitting of the bicycle, commented, “It’s a dandy’s bike. Not for rushing around on.”

The idea for the project came when Fitch saw an old bicycle hanging on the wall of Harcourt’s Highgate studio. The two men agreed to collaborate on a new concept inspired by the sighting of the old bicycle, and 8 weeks later The Brogue was complete.

The bike comes with a hand stitched leather saddlebag, five gear speed and a lightweight chain, and handlebars studded with unusual but stunning chocolate brown diamonds.

The Brogue will be on display at Nicholas James’ Hatton Garden showroom, and is a must see for fans of cycling, diamonds, or just innovative, luxurious design.
