Ruby – Kaiser Chiefs
Who could forget the Kaiser Chiefs’ lively romp Ruby? It’s got one of the catchiest choruses in history and was a summer anthem throughout 2007 and beyond. Whilst the Kaiser Chiefs use the term Ruby to refer to a lady of the same name, this bright red gemstone could definitely be the basis for a song in its own right.
Diamonds are Forever – Shirley Bassey
There are hundreds of songs about diamonds, from The Beatles’ Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds to Rihanna’s recent Diamonds hit single, but Shirley Bassey’s Diamonds are Forever has to be one of the most iconic diamond tracks of all time. The song, which was the soundtrack for the James Bond film of the same name and released in 1971, has since been resampled by a number of famous music artists including Kanye West, who transformed this classic tune into something completely modern.
Gold – Spandau Ballet
It’s not just about the gemstones – precious metals often get their own songs too, but few are more memorable that Spandau Ballet’s 1983 smash Gold. An inspirational song filled with peppy verses and an anthemic chorus, it’s another jewellery song that continues to stand the test of time. All together now – you are GOLD!
