Jewellery valuation and appraisals

Heming offer a professional comprehensive in-house facility for jewellery appraisals. A trusted service offering schedules including photographic images alongside detailed descriptions. These are meticulously prepared and recognised for the purpose of insurance and probate. We also offer free advice on jewellery care, maintenance and security. With years of experience our antique specialist values period jewellery, watches and silverware that have a value far beyond the scrap value. Contemporary and designer jewellery is also worthy of assessing and analytical testing and is worthy of insuring.

Trained gemologist's valuers

Appraisals are carried out by our trained gemologist and all purchases at Heming include a free certificate containing a full description of the item. The value stated in an insurance valuation is based upon the full retail cost of replacement. Probate valuations are an estimate of the value a piece of jewellery is expected to fetch at auction. Insurance companies require a valuation certificate and proof of purchase for items of jewellery over a certain value. Only usually request to see them when a loss is suffered and a claim is lodged. Fees for written valuations are quoted on the amount of time a specialist is required. This usually equates to 1% of the total jewellery value and a minimum charge will apply. Please note that valuation fees are subject to VAT.

Laboratory valuation reports

Laboratory reports for quality of metals that are not hallmarked are conducted and grades of gemstones by our fully qualified gemologist. Who form our expert opinion of authenticity, quality, design, desirability and up to-date market value. As part of our standard service Heming photographs items of jewellery for ease of reference. This can be invaluable in the event of future claims and replacement. Insurance cover can be arranged for customers in store.

Valuation for unwanted jewellery

Heming will also offer to buy or part exchange unwanted jewellery items. The company takes pride in its reputation for making fair offers for immediate settlement. Providing an excellent alternative to selling at auction. If you wish to make an appointment, our specialist can review your jewellery for estate purposes, phone 0207 499 7644.
